I have been a printer and mailer for over thirty years and can honestly say that if you make a decent offer on a good product or service and use direct mail correctly you will see great results. It takes what I call the 3P’s. Participation, Persistence and Patience. Every client I have ever had that followed the 3P’s with a proper mailing program has succeeded.
Mailing has distinct advantages over other methods of marketing. Using Direct Mail allows you to control the message, control where the message is delivered with pin point accuracy and control when the message is delivered. Direct mail is totally proactive which means you are not relying on potential customers to come to you. As an example let’s say you are delivering an offer for swimming pool cleaning. You could mail a marketing piece to homeowners that have swimming pools or you could put an ad in the newspaper, where the person reading it might not be a pool owner. Or worse the homeowner with the swimming pool doesn’t read the newspaper so the message of your great offer goes unnoticed. The one great thing about postcards is that the recipient of the postcard has to read it in order to throw it away, so “Message Received”!
